Advanced Manufacturing in one of four Strategic Focus Areas (SFAs) of the ETH Domain. The program of the SFA Advanced Manufacturing aims to enable fundamental research in engineering science in areas where missing knowledge or technical problems are hindering Swiss companies to use advanced manufacturing technologies.
The financial means of the SFA Advanced Manufacturing to fund research projects are available for Principal Investigators (PI) of the four participating ETH institutions to carry out research activities in consortia across the ETH institutions. Most of these funds should be used for hiring young talents, in particular doctoral students and postdocs.
Beyond the funding of cutting-edge research projects, the SFA Advanced Manufacturing invests in capacity buildup and technology platforms as well as in knowledge and technology transfer activities.
As the governing and executive body of the SFA Advanced Manufacturing initiative, a Steering Committee is formed, which consists of representatives of the institutions of the ETH Domain as well as representives of the Swiss industry.
