Projects

Initial Program
In September 2016, the project selection process of a first call for proposals has been initiated. In March 2017, the Steering Committee selected the seven most attractive and promising research projects out of the submitted 18 project proposals in this initial program of the SFA Advanced Manufacturing.

The project consortia with leading principal investigators and teams across the four participating ETH institutions will carry out innovative and groundbreaking research activities in the three Technical Focus Areas (TFA) of this initial SFA program. The research activities of these seven projects started in the first half of 2017.
High-precision micro-manufacturing of ceramics
Fundamental Understanding of Oxide Refractory Ceramics and Laser Additive Manufacturing
Powder focusing for beam induced laser 3D printing
PREcision Additive Manufacturing of Precious metals Alloys
Functional OXIdes Printed on Polymers and Paper
Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymers and Additive Manufacturing
Sustainable Design of 4D Printed Active Systems

Expansion Program
Mid 2017, the ETH Board approve an expansion of the SFA-AM program and granted further financial means to fund research projects in advanced manufacuturing. In a second call, the Steering Committee selected further four research projects that adress key challenges in the two new Technical Focus Areas (TFA) of the expansion program: TFA 4 - Sensing Technologies and TFA 5 - Intelligent Systems and Advanced Automation. The research activities of these four projects started in spring 2018.
Digital Manufacturing of 3D-Printed Wearable Sensors
MOnitoring and CONTrol of AM metal process
Automated process flow for high-speed additive nanostructure assembly with integrated process control
High-Efficacy X-Ray Diagnostic Tools for Process Optimization and Quality Management on Roll-to-Roll and Conveyor-based Manufacturing Lines
