Projects
Initial Program, period 2017-2020
In September 2016, the project selection process of a first call for proposals has been initiated. In March 2017, the Steering Committee selected the seven most attractive and promising research projects out of the submitted 18 project proposals in this initial program of the SFA Advanced Manufacturing.
The project consortia with leading principal investigators and teams across the four participating ETH institutions will carry out innovative and groundbreaking research activities in the three Technical Focus Areas (TFA) of this initial SFA program. The research activities of these seven projects started in the first half of 2017. Expansion Program, period 2017-2020
Mid 2017, the ETH Board approved an expansion of the SFA-AM program and granted further financial means to fund research projects in advanced manufacturing. In a second call, the Steering Committee selected further four research projects that address key challenges in the two new Technical Focus Areas (TFA) of the expansion program: TFA 4 - Sensing Technologies and TFA 5 - Intelligent Systems and Advanced Automation. The research activities of these four projects started in spring 2018.
Continuation Program, period 2021-2024
In its March 2020 meeting, the ETH Board approved the continuation program 2021-2024 of the SFA Advanced Manufacturing. In February 2021, the Steering Committee (SC) met to decide which projects will be funded by the SFA-AM in the new period. Based on international reviews, the evaluation of the SC members and the discussions during the meeting, the SC selected eight interdisciplinary research projects out of the 15 submitted full proposals. These projects address the newly defined Technical Focus Areas 2021-2024 and will start in the second quarter of 2021. The consortia will receive funding of in total more than 12 million CHF.
