Participants and goal of the workshop

This workshop addressed the Principal Investigators (PI) of the participating institutions of the ETH Domain who are active in field of advanced manufacturing and who are seeking funding for research activities related to the Technical Focus Areas (TFAs) 2021-2024.

The goal of the workshop was to give these PIs the opportunity to present and discuss their project ideas with other PIs in the ETH Domain.

As a follow up action after the workshop and based on the information exchange in the workshop, the PIs can meet again to discuss potential collaborations and to establish project consortia across the participating institutions of the ETH Domain. These follow up meetings need to be organized individually by the PIs themselves.

Key elements and preparation

The presentations of project ideas are the key element of the workshop. Each presenting PI or consortium had 10 minutes to present his project proposal. The presentation covered the following points:

• Challenge that will be addressed and its importance for the industrial application
• Project idea and approach that requires fundamental research in engineering science
• Project objectives and concrete results as well as their impact on the Swiss industry
• Institutes, laboratories and PIs forming the consortium and their contribution in the project

After each presentation, the participants had 5 minutes to ask questions regarding the project idea.
