Steering Committee

The governance of the initiative in the SFA Advanced Manufacturing shall enable focused research by consortia and capacity buildup with a minimum of overhead. As a governing body of the strategic initiative, a Steering Committee is formed.

Members
The Steering Committee is composed by two representatives of each of the four participating ETH institutions and currently six high-ranking executives and experts from the Swiss industry.
Representatives of the ETH Institutions
Prof. Dr. Detlef Günther, ETH Zürich
Prof. Dr. Jan S. Hesthaven, EPFL
Prof. Dr. Gabriel Aeppli, PSI
Dr. Pierangelo Gröning, Empa
Prof. Dr. Markus Bambach, ETH Zürich
Prof. Dr. Christian Enz, EPFL
Prof. Dr. Frithjof Nolting, PSI
Dr. Lars Sommerhäuser, Empa
Industry Representatives
Evert Dijkstra, Managing Director, Phonak Communications AG
Dr. Olivier Greim, R&D Director, Rolex SA
Urs Gribi, Managing Director, ABB Turbo Systems Ltd.
Dr. Andreas Hafner, Senior Innovation Manager, BASF Schweiz AG
Samuel Schär, CEO Advanced Materials, Bühler AG
Nicola Thibaudeau, CEO, MPS Micro Precision Systems AG

Tasks
The tasks of the Steering Committee (SC) are:
  • The SC proposes to the ETH Board the split of funds between research projects, capacity buildup and technology platforms as well as the focus areas of the program.
  • The SC evaluates the pre-proposals and invites consortia to prepare full project proposals.
  • The SC organizes the evaluation of the full project proposals, selects the best projects and decides about the allocation of funds.
  • The SC meets at least once a year to discuss the progress in the projects and to agree on corrective actions.
  • The SC prepares annually and after the end of the initiative short reports for the ETH Board addressing scientific progress and financial aspects.
