Technical Focus Areas

Advanced Manufacturing is a very broad technical field. For the period 2017-2020 with the initial and the expansion program of the SFA-AM, the participating ETH institutions defined in total five Technical Focus Areas (TFAs) of the period 2017-2020, which they viewed as (i) highly relevant to Switzerland’s economy and (ii) in line with the involved ETH-Domain institutions’ strategies for the future.

For the program of the SFA-AM in the period 2021-2024, the Steering Committee reviewed the current TFAs and defined the four Technical Focus Areas (TFAs) of the period 2021-2024. These four TFAs provide continuity of the program in 2017-2020, but broaden at the same time the scope, as they include all advanced manufacturing technologies as well as all applications targeted with these manufacturing technologies.
